In the news: temporary UK VAT cut on children’s festival tickets

A short summer window dropped VAT on children’s tickets and family attractions to 5%. Useful for family festivals — and a reminder how tax policy lands in the ticket budget.

For summer 2026 the UK temporarily cut VAT from 20% to 5% on children’s tickets (and a defined set of family-friendly attractions) between 25 June and 1 September — the “Great British Summer Saving” window that AIF confirmed would cover family and children’s festival tickets.

Trade coverage mixed a welcome for the cut with wider frustration about VAT elsewhere in the live ecosystem (including debate over VAT on the LIVE Trust £1 grassroots levy). The practical point for organisers: tax rules change ticket maths overnight, and family events feel it first.

Why organisers care: grant decks and ticket prices need numbers you can defend. Same logic as wanting planning software as a finite line item, not an open-ended monthly meter — see our note on budgeting software for grants.
